We might have discovered the most delicious chocolate on the planet, but there's a chance you didn't even know it existed.

Spending an entire weekend rediscovering your city is always a good idea.

This weekend my oldest niece, Madeline, spent the weekend with me and told me Saturday morning she wanted to 'explore the city,' so we did.

We explored (and ate and shopped) a TON and one of the exploration stops was at Chocolat by Daniel, which is pretty much as far West as you can be on the East side of State Street next to Carlyle Brewing Co. and I'll be honest with you... I thought it was closed.

You see, I love chocolate. Like really love it. Like if I didn't have to eat actual food I wouldn't. I would just eat candy all day every day so to think there was a magnificent chocolate shop waiting for me in downtown Rockford that I never took a minute to walk into was sort of crazy.

So on Saturday we walked in.

And while there is an 'open' sign on the door, the lighting is pretty dark, so I didn't blame myself that I thought it was closed.

The man behind the counter, who I'm 99.9 percent sure was Daniel welcomed us to the land of expensive chocolates, which I was glad he said because I was planning to buy my niece just one truffle so the fact that he told her that they were expensive upfront was helpful.

He explained each of the chocolates and we settled on the intrigue for me (olive oil and sea salt) and the tonka (cherry-ish) for Madeline.

'Auntie Chelle this is the best chocolate I've ever had,' she said as she ate her truffle faster than you should eat a $3 truffle... I let her have a bite of mine and she said she liked it ever more, sea salt with chocolate is always my fave.
