If you like ghost tours, Starved Rock has some good ones because of its haunted history.

It's October and Halloween is just around the corner. You might want to get into the spirit of the season with some ghost tours. Starved Rock is known for its hauntings. That makes it a good place to explore this time of year. Here are some you might want to check out.

October 26th Hikes leave at 5:30 p.m., 5:45 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

"You'll be hard-pressed to find a more hair-raising setting for a haunted living history hike than Starved Rock State Park. Your guide will take you along a luminary-lit trail, weaving tales of the park's storied, and morbid past. Your eyes will question what you see out in the dark woods, as fragments of the stories you hear come to life before your eyes. The hikes will be 1 hour in length and a 1/3 mile hike roundtrip."

October 11 & 12 leave at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

"Based out of the historic Reddick Mansion, in downtown Ottawa, this tour blends history, theatrics and spooky Italianate architecture. Stories from Ottawa's past will be told to you by the famous, and infamous, "ghosts" that haunt the Reddick Mansion and it's surrounding the neighborhood. This historic home tour and two-block walk through downtown Ottawa will terrify, entertain and even inform."

Wednesdays and Thursdays through October at 6 p.m. 

"Ottawa was once more "wild west" than a vacation destination. This haunted history tour will take you back to that time, by visiting the locations of grisly murders, suicides and other macabre malfeasance. This 2-3 hour, 1-2 mile tour will wind you to some of Ottawa's most famous sites and hidden gems, revealing a fascinating, and frightening, hidden history."

October 25 (5 p.m.), October 26 (5 p.m.), and October 27 (4 p.m.)

"Climb aboard the famous I&M Canal Boat for a special ghostly cruise this fall. Tour guides will divulge the many secrets, spirits, scandals that took place along the I&M Canal. These spine-tingling tales of supernatural occurrences and infamous events will show you a new side of Starved Rock Country."
