Holiday events for families in Chicago that are socially distanced.

Growing up my family had many holiday traditions. There were a bunch to celebrate at Christmas time. One of my favorites was going to Chicago. We would get up really earlier in the morning and catch the train downtown. We would spend the whole day there and not get back until late. Sometimes, my parents would surprise me and take me out of school to go. I felt like such a rebel. We would see many of the attractions like the decorated store windows, lunch under the big tree at Marshall Fields, a visit with Santa, Daly Plaza displays, and Christmas Trees From Around The World at the Museum of Science and Industry. It was so much fun with amazing memories.

We have a lot of great holiday events in Rockford too. I always like to check them out. Every once in a while, it's okay to get out of town and check out some other places. With having some time off with the family during Christmas, it's a good time to check out the sights in the Windy City.

Of course, this year is a little bit different. There are some COVID restrictions to put a damper on some of the fun but there's still plenty of things to do with social distancing.

According to timeout.com,

  • Virtual Christkindlmarket - "Traditionally a giant open-air market inspired by a similar seasonal tradition in Nuremberg, Germany, this year's edition of Christkindlmarket won't take place in the Loop or Wrigleyville. Instead, the holiday event is being retooled as an online marketplace."

  • ZooLights - "Unless you've got a big budget, your Christmas light display won't hold an LED candle to the 2.5 million bulbs that festoon Lincoln Park Zoo during the annual ZooLights event."

  • Ice Skating at Maggie Daley Park - "Situated in the heart of downtown Chicago, with the city's sweeping skyline as a backdrop, the Skating Ribbon at Maggie Daley Park is a winter attraction unlike any other. Skaters can lace up and wind around a winding ice-covered path that's twice the length of a lap around a traditional rink."

I hope you're able to go out and have some family fun during the holidays.
