The Illinois State Police will be holding roadside safety checks in Winnebago County during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

I'd like to start out by saying to everyone, please don't drink and drive, ever. You are putting lives in danger.

There's no reason to do it. Especially, when things like Uber are a finger touch away.

The holiday season is starting, so that means more parties, so just be smart.

"Illinois State Police District 16 will conduct roadside safety checks in Winnebago County on Nov. 23. Officers working the detail will be watchful for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, driving under the influence, not using safety belts and child restraints, speeding, driving distractedly and violating any Illinois vehicle codes and criminal violations."

Even though, they have announced this specific date. The police will be out in full force throughout the holidays.

I know there will be some angry folks because I'm sharing this info. Trust me, the state police want this information out there. In fact, they send out press releases about it. Anything that keeps drivers from drinking and driving is good. Even warnings like this.

Please be safe during this joyous time of year.
