It's been a wonder to some how Ozzy Osbourne has managed to survive through some of his experiences over the years, but there is a scientific clue.

The New York Post reports that back in 2010, scientists at Knome Inc. decided to study a remarkable human being's DNA and that they chose to take a closer look at Ozzy. Now, in a new book titled "Pleased to Meet Me: Genes, Germs and the Curious Forces That Make Us Who We Are," researcher Bill Sullivan reveals his findings.

According to Sullivan's research, Ozzy does have a never-before-seen mutation that has allowed him to consume alcohol in great quantities and several genetic variations that predisposed him to drug and alcohol dependency.

“Ozzy is indeed a genetic mutant,” writes Sullivan, who also examines the surprising ways in which we're shaped by our DNA and biological factors.

"I was curious ... given the swimming pools of booze I've guzzled over the years -- not to mention all of the cocaine, morphine, sleeping pills, cough syrup, LSD, Rohypnol ... you name it -- there's really no plausible medical reason why I should still be alive. Maybe my DNA could say why," stated Ozzy back in a 2010 Sunday London Times column.

"I've always said that at the end of the world there will be roaches, Ozzy and Keith Richards," Sharon Osbourne stated at a 2010 press conference when the mutation testing was revealed. "He's going to outlive us all. That fascinated me -- how his body can endure so much."

According to an ABC News report, Ozzy also had a 2.6-times increased chance for hallucinations associated with marijuana, though the musician said he wouldn't know if that were true because he so rarely smoked marijuana without other drugs also in his system.

However, Osbourne's genes suggest that he is a slow metabolizer of coffee, meaning that he would be more affected by caffeine. "Turns out that Ozzy's kryptonite is caffeine," Knome co-founder Jorge Conde stated back in 2010.
