There's nothing like a Grateful Dead concert. If you ever attended one, you know what I'm talking about. I was talking to my uncle once about seeing the Dead. He said he had seen them in Chicago in 1970 and when they left the theater after the show, it was light outside. "The longest concert I ever went to", he said. I was lucky to have seen them a couple of dozen times, but my first show wasn't until the summer of '88 at Alpine Valley. There were still a lot of original Deadheads who had been with the band since the early '70s or earlier in some cases, but they left the scene not too much longer after that. The old timers were my favorite. Great stories among other things.

The Grateful Dead played their last show together on July 9, 1995 at Soldier Field. I was offered a ticket to the show but declined. I had seen them at a couple of shows in Vegas that Spring and they weren't all that together. I did see a couple of the band's concerts in Salt Lake City in February and they were pretty tight and the song selection was superb.

Jerry Garcia passed away a few weeks later and things just couldn't go on without 'Captain Trips.' Today on the Brizz Record Bin we spun one of the band's most beloved songs, "Ripple." Below is a great video from Radio City Music Hall from Halloween 1980. These were the same shows culled for the album Reckoning that was released the following year.

If you have the time enjoy the Grateful Dead live from Dane County Coliseum, 12/3/81. Jerry's solo during the encore of Dylan's "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" is one of my favorites.
