Pucker up Rockford, The REAL Translation of Mistletoe is ‘Poop on a Stick’
Did you know that Mistletoe really translates to "poop on a stick?" BestLifeOnline
So let's go back, and back and back...Greek Mythology...The druids believes that "Mistletoe" was to be hung to ward off ghosts and witches. Also it is said that the mistletoe is good for providing cures for certain diseases and poisons...That is craziness. Ok, that whole "cure for poisons" thing. Real mistletoe is ACTUALLY poisonous...so there's that.
So let's get into all the "poop" about mistletoe...Are you ready for shit sh*t, here we go!
The original name for mistletoe was Mistaltan. "Mistal" comes from the Anglo Saxon word for "dung," poop. So while Greek mythology used mistletoe to ward off evil spirits and cure disease, it was really because it was hanging poop? I think that would keep more than evil spirits away!
So this holiday season if a loved one approaches you with mistletoe for a smooch, think poop. Every time, all the time, nothing but poop. LOL
So why do we do the "kiss under poop" thing anyway?
Tradition tells us that if you receive a kiss under the mistletoe, it's good luck BUT if a woman doesn't receive a kiss under the mistletoe she would remain single the coming year. Now THAT is pretty poopy.
So history tells us Norse god Baldr was killed by an arrow, that was made out of mistletoe...The poop arrow...The other gods came together, and brought him back to life. So therefore, the mistletoe is good luck or something. Merry Christmas.
