I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a fan of the cold, especially as I get older. I remember as a kid jumping in a cold pool with no problem what so ever. I can't believe I used to do that. Nowadays, I need a hot shower.

I was asked for several years to become part of a Polar Plunge team. I always seemed to find something else to do that day. Now, that I've participated for a few years I actually enjoy jumping into that cold lake. It's an amazing experience.

A few years ago, I started volunteering for some of the Therapeutic Recreation programs with the Rockford Park District. That's when I started meeting some of the Special Olympic Athletes from the Rockford area. I knew right away I wanted to support these participants.
Right around that same time, 96.7 The Eagle started getting involved with the event so it was perfect timing. The Polar Plunge is a benefit for Special Olympics Illinois and the athletes. That's a great reason to be a part of this incredible day.
This year the Polar Plunge is happening on Saturday, March 1st. The pre-plunge starts at 9:30am and the plunge kicks off at noon. The location is at Olson Lake inside Rock Cut State Park. Each plunger must collect at least $100 in donations but you get a really cool sweatshirt for the effort.
Grab your friends, family, or co-workers and start up a team. The more the merrrier. Don't forget to come up with a theme because there's a contest. People go all out for that one. Of course, if you don't know any brave souls that will plunge with you, you're more than welcome to sign up as an individual. Everyone is so cool, you'll find a team to join right away.
