Pay It Forward
Have you "Paid it Forward" today?
It doesn't take much to put a smile on someone's face. It's quite simple actually. While in the drive-thru, why not buy the customer behind you their morning coffee? Why not hold the door open for someone at the grocery store? It's simple and I try to do something nice for someone every day.
When you do these things, its amazing the reaction you get from others and the overwhelming feeling of joy you get inside. For example, when I was at the grocery store, I was purchasing my normal list of weekend goodies. Beer, frozen pizza, ice cream, and popcorn. An elderly man was behind me in line and we struck up conversation with each other. He said it looked like I was having a party, but really I was just trying to eat my junk food and wash it down with a cold beer. I told him he could come to my party if he wanted to, and he joked that he was going to have one of his own with his three bottles of Tonic Water he was waiting in line to purchase. After a bit of small talk I impulsively bought his three bottles of Tonic Water. He looked as if he won the lottery! The look on his face alone made my day.
Someone who pays it forward every day is Heather Risser. Heather is 37 years old, and has worked with countless numbers of families to foster and adopt hundreds of animals from the South Suburban Humane Society. I have yet to meet Heather, but I do know her dear co-worker and friend Vicky. Vicky, along with Heather's friends and family, are reciprocating by paying it forward to Heather.
You see, Heather suffered multiple massive strokes on July 4th of 2013. Every day she fights through therapy just to walk again. She has made significant improvements, yet has a very long way to go.
Vicky and others are doing their best to reduce the cost of medical expenses so Heather can go back to doing what she does best.... paying it forward by bringing the love and joy of a pet into others lives.
You must ask yourself each day... Have I paid it forward today? If not, I suggest you do soon. The good in the world will come right back to you, if you put it out there.
