Although the Green Bay Packers selling stock in their team to fans is a pretty cool thing, I must, in the interests of full disclosure, admit to being a Bears fan. Therefore, you might have to sit through a few snarky comments I feel compelled to throw at the Packers.

Nothing personal, it's just business. Do I actually want to make fun of people who look like this? Well...yes:

This Is Only The 6th Time In Franchise History That The Packers Have Sold Stock

This is the first time in the last 10 years (previous sales took place in 1923, 1935, 1950, 1997 and 2011), so it's not hard to understand that some people were unaware of the way the ownership of the Green Bay Packers is set up. The $300 shares being sold will raise funding for ongoing construction projects at Lambeau Field, including new video boards and concourse upgrades.

You Don't Have To Be A Packers Fan To Buy In

I fully understand that the allure of a cheese-wedge hat with the word "Owner" scrawled across it is strong, especially for fans, but you can still grab the stock without being forced to wear the cheese.

According to Packers.com,

The offering document and purchasing information are available online at www.packersstock.com. Interested fans are encouraged to go online to view the offering document and make a purchase, as it is the most efficient method. Credit and debit cards (most major cards) and electronic bank transfers can be used online. For those without internet access, a toll-free number – 833 OWN PACK (833-696-7225) – is available to request documents by mail for transactions to then be completed by mail.
