Another gun-related incident took place at CherryVale Mall on Valentine's Day. There were similar incidents that took place in 2016 and 2018, leading Rockford Police Chief Daniel O'Shea to send a strong message to those who might consider repeating similar activities.

We're tired of the violence. You've heard us say it before, if you're doing these acts we are coming for you. We are going to hunt you down and put you in prison should you be found guilty. (Q985online.com, 2018)

Several Rockford television stations were on the scene with live videos on Facebook after police arrived and confirmed the situation. On WIFR's Facebook feed, you will hear Chief of Police the Village of CherryValley confirm no one was injured and they found multiple empty shell casings at the scene of the incident. One person shopping inside the mall told me they thought they heard a loud "bang" and a temporary lockdown happened. "It was shorter than expected but never I never felt unsafe."

Although the situation was unfavorable, law enforcement may be able to review security cameras to figure out the suspects or vehicles involved. Almost 3 years ago to the day, Winnebago County Sheriff's Office used social media in an effort to find a vehicle involved in a fatal shooting outside of Macy's (which you can read more about), which is where the February 14, 2021 incident was reported.

Circumstances like this can take place anywhere at any moment, so always be vigilant.
