Dekalb's Village Commons Bookstore has been around long enough for not only some of our parents to shop at, but possibly even our grandparents. The go-to bookstore for Northern Illinois University students has been around for 51 years offering more than just books, students and shoppers could also find Huskies-gear, and so much more. The beloved store announced they will close their doors for good.

Thank you for everything VCB. Since I lived in University Plaza while I was on campus I loved that it was quick and convenient to get too. It was always a great time to stop in and get new NIU gear. No other bookstore compares (Marisa Johnson via Facebook)

Though Village Commons Bookstore did not give a specific closing date in their announcement on Facebook, a clearance sale has begun. As of this article, all merchandise is 75% Off, "excluding class/course textbooks & other exclusions may apply."

In an interview with NIU's student newspaper, Northern Star, VCB's manager Jody Boardman said she expects the store to remain open through the end of March. Northern Star also confirmed how many jobs will be affected during peak season.

The store’s closure will mean the loss of around 75 jobs during peak seasons. Most of the vanishing positions went to NIU students.

Village Commons Bookstore thanked those who have supported their business over the past five decades through Facebook.

We will miss serving the NIU Students and Families in the DeKalb Community and greatly appreciate the 51 years you have all given us! Thank you so much and stay well DeKalb!!!
