The Stone Stairway To Nowhere in Illinois is next on your bucket list.

Add The Stone Stairway To Nowhere On Your Bucket List

If you are into outdoor-type activities, Illinois is a good place to live. There are many different kinds to participate in. For hiking, I would add this special location to your bucket list.

I am talking about the Stone Stairway To Nowhere located at Bell Smith Springs which is part of the Shawnee National Forest in Ozark, Illinois in the southern part of the state.

Take a look for yourself from the Bell Smith Springs Facebook page...

Check out this video. Fast forward to the four-minute mark.

That is pretty amazing but you better be ready to tackle this beast.

Listen to Jim Carrey's advice from the movie, "Cable Guy," make sure you stretch out because you do not want to pull a hammy.

Details About The Stairway To Nowhere

According to shawneeforest.com,

"This iconic stone staircase was placed here by hand in the early 1930s. This was the era of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The beautiful stairs, composed from native stone, lead you to the beautiful world of the Devil’s Backbone, a favorite local swimming spot, as well as the largest natural arch in the Shawnee National Forest."

The Stone Stairway To Nowhere can be found on an eight-mile trail through Bell Smith Springs. The area is known for its beauty. It basically does lead to nowhere.

This hike is not an easy one. The stairs are narrow, steep, and become very slippery when wet.

Great Place For An Album Cover

From the pictures I have seen, the stone stairs look like they could make a cool album cover. They actually look like something Led Zeppelin used back in the day.

Maybe, someone could remake the song, "She's Buying A Stone Stairway To Heaven" instead of "Stairway To Heaven."
