Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee in Studio With Nikki Sixx + Bob Rock: ‘It’s That New S–t!!!!’
On New Year's Eve in 2015, Motley Crue performed the final show of their farewell tour, legally committing themselves to never touring again. Nikki Sixx claimed the band became "four men with different ideas" and Tommy Lee said the band never even said goodbye to each other after their last show. Now, the members of Crue's rhythm section have linked back up, sharing a photo and video from the studio.
The Motley Crue Facebook page posted an image (seen below) of Lee, Sixx and producer Bob Rock together in the studio, surrounded by food, water bottles and gear with a caption that simply stated, "28th August 2018" with no other details. Lee also uploaded a short clip of him playing drums (also below), but did not divulge any information as to what the purpose of this session was. All he said was, "Boomz!!!!!!" A second photo in a slideshow post from Lee's Instagram page (further below) shows another in-studio shot of the three, exclaiming "It’s that new shit!!!!"
Fans hoping that this is the early stage of a new Motley Crue music should remember that Sixx shot down the idea that the hair metal icons would ever make another one. "No chance of another record," he told Classic Rock in 2016, continuing, "I want to just leave it intact. I see no reason. We couldn't be creative as a band, so how the hell can we continue? But I'm glad the way it finished — we did it all, we did what we said we were going to do, and now I'm excited about the future."
The long-awaited film adaption of Motley Crue's raucous The Dirt collective autobiography is in the works, so perhaps Sixx and Lee are cooking up something for the film? The presence of Bob Rock suggests this could be for something official, not just a jam. For now, it's a mystery but at least we know which actors are set to play the band members in the upcoming Netflix release.
