Larry Yellen of Fox 32 Chicago found out the hard way not to mispronounce Joliet. In fact, what he discovered was he was breaking the law. After reporting that actor Anthony Rapp was from Joliet he caught some grief, because you see he didn't say it right. What Yellen said was "Jolly-ette". And that is a big No-No.

It was put into law in the 1890's as a way to get back at Chicagoan's who had reversed the flow of the Chicago River, causing raw sewage to be sent back towards Joliet. So anyone from Chicago caught pronouncing Joliet wrong was fined $5. But there isn't a record of anyone having to pay that fine in quite some time.
