After trying to ban candy canes and other Christmas related things, a principal of a Midwest grade school was put on administrative leave.

When I was a kid, it was all out Christmas celebrations in school. For my daughter, it was really scaled back. There was at a little fun.

Now, some people are trying to totally eliminate it.

According to wgntv.com,

"An elementary school principal in Omaha, Nebraska is on administrative leave after asking teachers to not celebrate Christmas in classrooms."

The principal sent out a memo to all the teachers of the school to highlight the items and events that were to be avoided during the holidays.

They included...

  • Using images of Santas or Christmas items on worksheets.
  • Trees in the classrooms.
  • Elf on the shelf.
  • Singing carols.
  • Playing Christmas music.
  • Sending a scholastic book that’s also a Christmas book.
  • Making ornaments as gifts.
  • Reindeer.
  • Christmas videos/movies and/or characters from Christmas movies.

"A most curious “not acceptable” item: candy canes. According to the principal, the shape of a candy cane and its color strongly represent Christianity and Catholicism. “Historically, the shape is a ‘J’ for Jesus. The red is for the blood of Christ, and the white is a symbol of his resurrection. This will also include different colored candy canes.”

When word got out about the banned activities, complaint letters were sent to the district. An apology was sent out and the principal was placed on leave.

What a grinch.
