Did anyone else get a letter in the mail yesterday informing them their student's information could have been hacked in a recent data breach?

That's exactly what happened to me yesterday, then I saw the story pop up on the news.

Personal information for both students and teachers in the Harlem, Kinnickinnick, and Rochelle school districts were exposed in a recent hacker attack, according to mystateline.com.

All the way back in November of 2018 hackers gained access to the schools AIMSweb testing platform, but officials are saying they weren't made aware of it until mid-March of this year.

The information that was leaked was that of student's first and last names, along with their date of birth.  Teacher's had the same info leaked as their students, plus their email addresses.

This information was accessed by unknown parties, per Pearson Clinical Assessment, the company that made the AIMSweb program.

Many school districts in the state of Illinois were affected by the breach. Pearson is reporting that approximately 13,000 school and university accounts had been breached.

If your student was one that could've had their information leaked and you have questions, contact Pearson at 866-883-3309, email aimsweb1request@pearson.com, or refer to the letter your student's school sent to your home.

Pearson is also offering free credit monitoring services from Experian.
