Toys R Us Kids Are Not Loving the New Stores That Have Opened in Illinois
Toys R Us kids all over the nation were thrilled to hear their favorite childhood toy store was making comeback after all stores closed back in 2018, but now that they're back, most people are less than thrilled.
Favorite Toys R Us Memories
Like most kids, when I was little, going to the Toys R Us store by the CherryVale Mall was like visiting my own slice of Heaven right here on Earth. I could spend HOURS going up and down the toy aisles trying to decide which toy I wanted to spend my allowance money on, even though I knew dang well I would walk out of there with a new Barbie or My Little Pony.
Before the Rockford store closed in 2018, my oldest daughter Ella was old enough to remember and fall in love with Toys R Us too, and, no joke, she just asked me a couple of weeks ago if Toys R Us was ever going to open again. Now I get to tell her YES, Toys R Us is back, but I don't think you are going to like it.
Dissapointment for Toys R Us Kids
When rumors first started swirling that Toys R Us would be coming back as flagship stores inside Macy's locations throughout the US, I think we all knew these new "stores" would never be as cool as the orginals, but we still had hope that wouldn't be true. Well, it is true, at least when it comes to Toys R Us in Rockford.
The Rockford Register Star recently did a story about the Toys R Us shop that just opened inside Macy's at the CherryVale Mall, and although I haven't visitied this shop yet, I'm pretty sure I won't impressed after reading through the comments on this Facebook post...
Some of the comments that stood out the most to me include;
It's a ripoff. Nothing like what Toys R Us once was. You can get the same limited selection at Walmart.
We went this past weekend to check it out, I was disappointed. I hope they plan to expand. It was very minimal.
Sadly it is nothing like their original store. Some toys are displayed in the kids' clothing section. Maybe they have future plans to move it. Farm and fleet has a better selection and great prices.
I used to work at the CherryVale Macy's for over 5 years, and although I love it, I know firsthand that store does not have the room to house a massive Toys R Us shop, but I'm hoping we will see the toy selection expand in the years to come.
If you really want to treat your young children to a Toys R Us experience like you had as a kid, the best thing you can do is to take them to the Macy's on N State St. in Downtown Chicago, or at the Woodfield Mall. The Toys R Us shops in those two stores have been open for about a year and people say they have a great selection of toys reminiscent to the "old days". Happy Shopping!
