According to a press release from the City of Rockford, there will be two public meetings on March 10 to discuss the Auburn Street Corridor Improvements (Phase 1) construction project, which will impact nearly two miles of roadway.
The meetings are designed to give community members a closer look at the project plans while allowing them to ask questions and share concerns about how construction could affect daily travel and business access.
Major Upgrades Planned for Auburn Street
City officials say the Auburn Street project will focus on improving both safety and long-term infrastructure. Planned upgrades include water main replacement and lead service line removal, which are key components of improving the reliability and safety of local utilities.
The project will also feature new sidewalks and a multi-use path, designed to improve accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists. Additional improvements include traffic signal upgrades, drainage improvements, safer road design, and full resurfacing of the roadway.
Altogether, the nearly two-mile construction project aims to modernize a busy corridor while making it safer and more accessible for everyone who uses it.
Public Meetings Scheduled for March 10
Community members can attend one of two public information sessions scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, at the Northwest Community Center, 1325 N. Johnston Avenue.

Meeting times are set for 1 pm and 5:30 pm to provide flexibility for residents and business owners. During the sessions, city officials and the project's construction contractor will outline the scope of the improvements and get feedback from the public.
Officials say the meetings are being held to help residents stay informed and ensure the Auburn Street project considers community needs throughout construction.
