Is Gustafson's Furniture and Mattress in Rockford Closed?

If you’ve spent even five minutes scrolling local Rockford-area Facebook groups lately, you’ve probably seen rumors like: “Did Gustafson’s Furniture and Mattress close?” “Is it gone for good?”, or “Should I panic if I have something on order?” floating about.

Trust me, I noticed the rumors extra fast because I’m not just a casual observer here. I just ordered a new couch and chair from Gustafson's a few weeks ago, so yeah, when I saw people asking if the doors were shut, my eyes started twitching a little.

Is Gustafson's Furniture and Mattress Closed?

Unfortunately, the sudden closure of businesses is something Rockford area residents have gotten pretty used to over the past few years, so it's understandable why we jump to the worst when we see signs like this posted:

When my husband and I were in Gustafson's a few weeks ago, the showroom was definitely under construction, which I assumed were major updates. My husband said he was told the building had suffered some sort of water damage, but I don't know if that's true.

Here are two things I do know:

Is Gustafson's Furniture and Mattress closed right now? Yes.

Are they permanently closed? No, but a lot of changes are in the works right now.
