If you're trying to get some sun this summer in Illinois, there's one mistake too many people make that you should know about.

Because my dad has a really dark complexion, I got his genes and tan really easily without burning.  My skin tone is already naturally a golden tone, but when I tan I can get five shades darker.  It's a blessing, honestly!

On the other side of things, my mom burns really fast.  She could be under an umbrella with long sleeves on and still get a sunburn on half her body.  Kinda funny... but it sucks haha.

If I've learned anything from tanning outside, it's to never make this mistake or you'll be hiding in your house for the rest of the summer.

NEVER FALL ASLEEP TANNING WITH YOUR SUNGLASSES ON.

Please, take my advice.  Just the other day, I ran into a former teacher from high school and he had recently gotten back from vacation.

He looked like he was wearing goggles, but it was just the outline of his sunglasses burnt around his eyes.

Load up on sunscreen, too.  That's not a bad idea!

I fell asleep in the sun a few weekends ago and woke up not even knowing I fell asleep.  Seriously, it can happen that fast!
