I am sure I’m not alone when something like this comes along, making me immediately think, “Why not me?”
It’s probably because I didn’t play the lottery that day, but someone who did sure made out big time.
A woman who preferred to stay anonymous won $2 million on a $20 scratch-off ticket.

A Convenient Stop: Local Retailer Sells Winning $20 Ticket
She bought the ticket at ZJ’s Pantry Plus Liquors in Des Plaines. I know it’s unreasonable, but because that’s close-ish to Rockford, my first thought was, “I’ve been to Des Plaines. I could’ve bought that ticket.”
Never mind that most of my trips to Des Plaines involve going to O’Hare, and I have absolutely no idea where ZJ’s Pantry Plus Liquors is.
I’m happy for her, though. She plans to buy a new house and celebrate with a trip to New York City.

Beating the Odds: Multi-Million Dollar Win Proves It’s Not Just Beginner’s Luck
And if you’re thinking this was beginner’s luck, think again. She previously won $10,000 playing the lottery.
The $20 ticket has overall odds of 1 in 3.85 of winning any prize, but that doesn’t matter when you hit the jackpot.
According to WGN, the winner will take home an estimated $1.4 million after taxes, which is still approximately $1.4 million more than I won by not buying a ticket.
