Illinois workers across several industries are facing a wave of layoffs in the coming months, according to the latest update from the state’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act… better known as the WARN Act.

The law requires companies with 75 or more employees to notify the state and their workforce at least 60 days before a mass layoff or facility closure. The newest report shows 10 companies across Illinois issuing WARN notices that could impact thousands of workers statewide.

The largest notice comes from Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Hospital and Franciscan Health Alliance, where 1,930 employees received WARN notices following the hospital’s recent sale to Prime Healthcare.

Officials say the notices are a legal requirement during the ownership transition, and Prime Healthcare expects to offer jobs to nearly all current employees.

The WARN report also lists Walgreens, headquartered in Deerfield, with more than 400 layoffs across several Illinois locations including their corporate headquarters. Those layoffs began in February.
