Thrill Seekers Rejoice: New Study Ranks America’s Top Amusement Parks

If you like the wind in your hair or the rush of adrenaline that comes with a rollercoaster, a brand new study just ranked the best amusement parks in America for those looking for a rush.

Researchers looked at these things:

  • Number of roller coasters
  • Thrill and extreme rides
  • Ride height
  • Drop distance
  • Speed
  • Inversions

While Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, took the #1 spot overall with a score of 99.65 out of 100, that doesn’t mean that Illinois was left out.

Six Flags Great America Lands in the Top 10 for Coaster Fans

Six Flags Great America in Gurnee actually made the list, ranking sixth overall. The Raging Bull’s 202-foot drop is a big reason why the park was ranked so highly.

The other big reason Great America Gurnee was highlighted, along with five Six Flags parks in total, is that they just rolled out a new membership program that will give year-round access to participating parks.

That’s a fun idea, but we all know the Gurnee Six Flags is not open year-round. Can you imagine a roller coaster in January or February in Northern Illinois?

While it’s only open for part of the year, Six Flags Great America in Gurnee is one of the best theme parks for thrill junkies, and not too far to go for people who live in the Rockford area.
