There are times in your life when you need to eat breakfast at 3 a.m.

I'm not going to go into details but unless you work overnights, it will probably happen most while you're in your 20s.

At least that's when it happened to me. Now? Not so much. I couldn't imagine eating some of the things I would scarf down in the wee hours of the morning.

Despite some of the fuzzy memories that came with those meals I definitely remember the restaurants. The main was a joint called Kathy's Breakfast Nook in Dixon, Illinois. I would sometimes frequent Fern's Cafe too, also located in Dixon.

Both of those places are no longer around, and obviously, my desire to eat breakfast in the middle of the night has faded away as well.

However, if I were to consider eating an omelet with hash browns or a heaping helping of pancakes at any time of day, I'd probably head to this diner.

Redbook's Best 24-Hour Restaurant in Your State article says the White Palace Grill is Illinois' tastiest 24/7 restaurant.

This Chicago joint is a classic, all-American diner where customers grab a seat at the counter to dig into skillets, pancakes, omelets, waffles and towering club sandwiches.

Marc G. on Yelp calls the White Palace Grill "Our favorite place since moving to Chicago." but Danny S. has a differing opinion:

We came here because we saw it on the food channel. They have pictures up of Guy Fieri inside and outside. We specifically came for the biscuits and gravy and the review talks about the delicious homemade food. What a disappointment.

I guess you can't make people happy 24/7. Get it? Anyway, White Palace Grill is at 1159 South Canal Street in Chicago.
