Candy Made in Iowa Now Part of Massive Recall in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin
Here's a heads-up about candy made in our neck of the woods that's now part of a massive recall affecting several states, including Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
Suppose you've got a sweet tooth and regularly buy candy at familiar stores like Walmart, Target, Hy-Vee, and Dollar General. In that case, you'll want to pay attention to this recall from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA.) It's now affecting distributors in 17 different states.
Right now, Minnesota is NOT included in the recall of candy made at a factory in Sioux City, Iowa. But it DOES affect stores and distributors in the following states:
- Alabama
- California
- Florida
- Illinois
- Iowa
- Kansas
- Missouri
- Nebraska
- North Dakota
- Oregon
- Pennsylvania
- South Carolina
- South Dakota
- Texas
- Virginia
- Wisconsin
- Wyoming
Certain candies made by the Palmer Candy Company in Sioux City, Iowa ,are being recalled due to the detection of a tainted ingredient commonly used in several of the products the FDA said:
Palmer Candy Company, Sioux City, Iowa, is recalling its “White Coated Confectionary Items” because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
The FDA said that while no illnesses associated with this recall have been reported, but consumers who have purchased any white-coated confectionary items manufactured by Palmer Candy Company should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

If you have questions, the FDA says to contact the company Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm at 1-800-831-0828. Here are the brand names affected by the recall:
