Report: 14 Illinois Grocery Stores Sold – No Word on Closings

If there's one thing that's constant in the world of business, it's change. That's true for at least 14 Illinois grocery stores that have reportedly just been sold. No word if they'll close their doors or just go through a big change.

This brand new report from a writer on Newsbreak says that hundreds of grocery stores just changed hands and 14 are located in Illinois. It says that the proposed merger between Albertsons and Kroger involves a deal to "offload" at least 400 grocery store locations.

The report says that the two companies agreed to "sell these stores to C&S; Wholesale Grocers, a major grocery wholesaler that owns Piggly Wiggly stores". That is reportedly the case for 14 Kroger grocery stores in Illinois. 

The story says that a majority of the Kroger locations in Illinois that were a part of this deal were in the Chicago area. No word on what other Illinois places might be affected.

The report is that many Kroger locations will close, but that does not appear to be the case (at least initially) for the Illinois places. It's unknown if this sale will involve just a brand change to Piggly Wiggly or something else entirely.

According to Kroger's website, it maintains stores in 25 different Illinois cities. Hopefully soon, we'll get a specific list of which cities will see store changes and which ones won't. Let's hope they remain open for the sake of the communities and the employees who work there.
