Wisconsin One Of 17 States Included In Massive Candy Company Recall
Attention treat lovers! Those delicious confections you bought may do more than satisfy your sweet tooth, it could also make you sick.
The FDA helped spread the word Monday of a massive candy company recall that involves 17 states, including Wisconsin.
The reason for the recall is that the products can potentially be contaminated with Salmonella. This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.
Thankfully, no illnesses have been reported as of yet from the products included in this recall.
The Reason For The Recall
The Palmer Candy Company, of Sioux City, Iowa, is recalling its “White Coated Confectionary Items”.
Palmer Candy was notified by its liquid coating supplier that there was a potential for contamination with salmonella from an ingredient that was potentially contaminated by one of their suppliers.
The recalled items were distributed nationwide in Target, Walmart, HyVee, and Dollar General, and to distributors in Wisconsin, Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, and Wyoming.
