Yesterday we got the surprise of our lifetime, we found out the gender of our baby.

I couldn't wait to find out if my husband and I were expecting a boy or a girl.

At my last ultrasound, the technician determined the gender of the baby in secret and wrote it in an envelope that went to the bakery. The bakery put either pink or blue frosting inside of the cake. No one, including myself or my husband knew the gender of the baby before cutting the cake.

It isn't everyone's cup of tea to find out the gender of their baby before it's born. For my husband and I, we couldn't wait to find out. This was our way of making the news exciting, fun and what is a better reason to get the entire family together for the day!

My amazing parents hosted quite the party. There was an abundance of food, adult beverages, swimming and sunshine.

We were all placing our bets on what the baby would be.

One of the funniest guesses I had came from my 5-year-old nephew John.

I asked him if he thought the baby was a boy or a girl and he looked at me with a straight face and said, "um... I think it's a teenager."

After we cut into the cake to reveal the gender, he was clearly disappointed it wasn't a teenager. I can't wait to tell him that story when he is older.
