Illinois’ Most Popular State Fair Food Is A Delicious Deep Fried Treat
When you think of a state fair coming to town, what are you most excited to blow your money on? Sure, there are carnival rides and games, but that's not the best part of attending the fair.
A fair is ALWAYS all about the food. You're lying to yourself if you say otherwise, you know you're willing to wait in the incredibly long lines to get a taste of that deep fried, greasy, scrumptious funnel cake.
Maybe a deep fried Twinkie will fulfill your cravings.
I actually have never had one of these, I've only ever put Twinkies in my freezer and eaten them as a frozen dessert.
How about pickles? These might just be an acquired taste, but yeah I could go for fried pickles any day of the week. I'm also that person to eat an entire pickle straight out of the jar. DON'T JUDGE ME.
Sadly, none of these are Illinois' favorite State fair food!
Now you're wondering what Illinois fair-goers crave the most when they get hangry at a festival. I instantly say deep fried ice cream because it's such an unusual dessert you can't find around town other than a fair. Unfortunately, I was wrong!
Illinois' FAVORITE State fair food is deep fried, dipped in batter, and on a stick.
Yup, it's a deep fried corn dog. I do love me a big ol' corn dog.
According to Cozy Dog Drive In located in Springfield, they're home to the ORIGINAL hot dog on a stick; they served the very first ever corn dog in 1946.
Does this mean it's pretty fair to say a deep fried corn dog is a staple in Illinois? I think it's only right you get one when you attend the next fair in town!
