Illinois is One of America’s Most Expensive States to Maintain a Home
Who knew? Everything is expensive in Illinois.
It doesn't matter where you live, just about everything here, with the exception of beer, is going to cost you more.
Chalk it up to the privilege of living in the Land of Lincoln, I guess.
As a homeowner who has needed to shell out dollar after dollar in order to keep my place from falling down on my ears, I was far from surprised when I saw this new study.
Angi.com surveyed 1000 people and put together the 10 Most Expensive States to Maintain a Home and lo and behold, Illinois is smack dab in the middle of the top 10.
Our results revealed that the majority of American homeowners have felt some sticker shock at the estimated costs of their needed home repairs. And where you live in the U.S. can directly affect which maintenance projects come up most often and how much you’ll end up spending on them.
Of course, "Water Damage" is the Most Common Repair Reported in Illinois.
I mentioned earlier the issues that I have had at my own home and the biggest problem I have faced has been a flooded basement (twice), leaking toilets, showers, tubs, and even a fridge that dripped through the kitchen floor and into the basement causing major ceiling damage.
Needless to say, if I was surveyed by Angi.com I would have only bolstered Illinois' position because fixing all of those cost an arm and a leg.
