Some residents of Illinois are comfortable leaving their doors unlocked at all times, but a recent incident proves that isn't the best idea to protect your home.

It's A Real-Life Goldilocks Locks And The Three Bears Story In Illinois

Back when I was in college, a couple of friends and I took a road trip to N.I.U. One of the guys I was hanging with thought we had somewhere to crash for the night with a buddy from high school. As we were bar hopping, our group never found our host for the evening.

We were all feeling pretty good, so at bar time we were trying to figure out what to do. Remember, this was before cellphones. We went to the apartment building that we thought was our crash pad for the night. Unfortunately, no one was home.

The guy who set it up climbed the balcony of the apartment and went through the sliding door, which was unlocked. He let the rest of us in, and we made ourselves at home. After a few minutes, he figured out we were in the wrong apartment. Luckily, we got out of there before anyone got home.

I grew up in a house where the doors were always locked, so I thought the whole incident was kind of weird. Then I heard about this incident in Illinois where the owner came home and found strangers sleeping in his house. He had left his back door unlocked.

According to Patch...

Two strangers were found sleeping inside a house early Monday morning, police said.

The suspects told the residents that they believed the house belonged to a friend and that they had entered through an unlocked back door, police said.

They were believed to have been in the house for three hours, starting shortly after 2 a.m.

Luckily, nothing bad happened. The uninvited guests thought they were at a friend's house. They left without any problems and didn't disturb anything in the house. I bet that homeowner will lock all his doors from now on.
