It's funny because I've never taken a really long train vacation. My experience is basically riding the "L" into Chicago. Taking it into Wrigley Field seems to take a lot of time for me. I'm not sure how I would do on a cross-country trip.

My parents took quite a few train trips in their retirement. They went from Chicago to New Orleans. Now, that would've been cool. They went with a sleeper car, so that helped the experience. There's one to California that would be amazing.

According to Amtrak...

Experienced travelers say the California Zephyr is one of the most beautiful train trips in all of North America.

The Zephyr runs between Chicago and San Francisco, coursing through the plains of Nebraska to Denver, across the Rockies to Salt Lake City, and then through Reno and Sacramento into Emeryville/San Francisco.

The Zephyr train from Chicago to California would be an amazing experience and a unique way to see America. The trip is over 50 hours, so I'm not sure how I would do with that. Given the chance, I would definitely do it.
