Iggy Pop has led a storied career with many accolades, but even at this point in his life, there are still a few "firsts." One of those came Monday (Dec. 12) morning when the Golden Globe nominations were revealed and the singer's name was called.

Pop joins Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse), Stephen Gaghan and Daniel Pemberton as nominees for coming up with the music and lyrics for the song "Gold" from the Matthew McConaughey-starring film of the same name. The track is up for Best Original Song, where it will face competition from songs from Trolls, La La Land, Sing and Moana featuring works from Justin Timberlake, Ryan Tedder, Lin-Manuel Miranda and more.

While the songs typically aren't performed on the ceremony, a nomination does give the track a leg up in the possibility for being nominated for an Oscar. See all of the Golden Globe nominees here.

It's been a stellar year for Pop, who also released his well-received Post Pop Depression album with an assist from Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme and several other top notch musicians. Pop played dates in support of the album earlier this year.
