Happy coldest day of your life! Probably... how old were you the last time it was this cold in Rockford?

Our high temperature in Rockford today is -15 degrees. You know, 15 degrees before we hit zero degrees, and our low is -31 into tomorrow morning.

And I'm super sure you already know that already. What you might not know is when was the last time it was this cold in the Stateline.

Time to take a trip back in history thanks to Weather.Gov.

According to their charts, the coldest day in Rockford history was January 10, 1962 when it was -27... we might be breaking that record in the next 24 hours.

But if we don't, you will have to be at least 36 years old to have experienced a colder day than today in Rockford.

The next twelve coldest days are as follows:

  • January 20, 1985 (-26)
  • January 5, 1924 (-25)
  • February 9, 1933 (-25)
  • January 17, 1982 (-25)
  • January 23, 1936 (-24)
  • January 11, 1979 (-24)
  • January 15, 1979 (-24)
  • January 16, 1982 (-24)
  • December 24, 1983 (-24)
  • January 19, 1985 (-24)
  • January 19, 1994 (-24)
  • February 3, 1996 (-24)

So that means, the most recent day is was THIS COLD-ish was in 1996. Which until today would've been the coldest day of  my life.

Let's hope today remains the coldest day of all of our lives... warm up, Rockford!
