Hackers Change Sign By Soldier Field, Reads “Kill Cops”
According to the Sun Times, hackers changed a sign near Gold Star Families Memorial and Park, just east of Soldier Field, which memorializes CPD officers killed in the line of duty to read "Kill Cops". It is not known at this time if anyone has been arrested in connection to the hack.
It's a trying world right now for many officers. Unfortunately, there are stories coming out about cops who have abused their power and privilege, but there are a lot of cops who quietly go about their job and uphold the "To Serve and Protect" motto. There was recently a story of a cop in Utah who drug a man out of a car before it got hit by a train, risking his own life in the process.
As someone who has family and friends who are cops, I've heard both sides of it and can understand where people are coming from. There isn't a simple solution to the problem but I know a lot of cops who are OK with body cams not just for their safety but for others as well. Both people and police need to find a solution to the problem together. Listening to the talking points though and just repeating them isn't going to help.
Like Luke Bryan sings, "I believe if you just go by the nightly news, Your faith in all mankind would be the first thing you lose."
Get to know each other, spend time listening and less time talking. I remember an old saying, you were given two ears and one mouth for a reason. Empathy is a powerful tool when it comes to finding a solution. I hope we find one that everyone can be OK with and one that will make our officers lives as well as the ones they protect safer.
You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one!
