If you have received a ticket from a red light camera in Chicago, anytime since 2003, you may be getting a refund.

I always get so nervous when I approach an intersection that has a sign displaying that a Red Light Camera is ahead.

It's not that I'm consciously blowing red lights or doing things illegally, it's that sometimes you can't help it.

I know you know what I'm talking about.

You come up to an intersection, you aren't speeding, but it is very snowy out. Right as you are about to cross the intersection, the light turns yellow. It's only yellow for half a second, or at least that is how long it feels. You panic thinking, but if I slam on my breaks to stop at the line, I'll have more problems due to the snow than if I just keep going through the intersection.

You pass through, and for the next few days are concerned that you will be receiving a red light ticket in the mail even though you didn't do anything wrong.

Alright, so maybe it's just me?

But I have gotten red light camera tickets before, all for reasons similar to the one I detailed above. It's garbage. Any good standing police officer who may have seen the actual moment, wouldn't have pulled anyone over to get a ticket. Just silly.

Well, looks like the City of Chicago just ruled on how silly it all is.

According to The Chicago Sun-Times, all red light and speeding camera tickets are now void.

Chicago violated the “fundamental principles of justice, equity and good conscience” by denying due process to motorists issued red-light camera and speed-camera tickets, a judge has ruled, declaring those tickets “void.”

The City of Chicago failed in many aspects of the red light and speeding camera tickets which led to this ruling. So many, that I'm not sure I could thoroughly list them all. If you would like to learn more on the reasoning behind it, you can read the full article from The Chicago Sun-Times here.

Yet, one point I'm quite excited about is this could mean, after much investigation, that many motorist could be eligible for a refund!

I'd love to get my money back, wouldn't you?
