Enjoy Chicago’s First Cherry Blossom Season This May

According to the Chicago Tribune, in 2013 160 flowering cherry trees were planted behind Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Chicago world's Fair. Although the trees have flowered before, experts say this will be the first year people can see them at their best.

Chicago Park District Operations Support Manager Karen Szyjka recently told the Tribune;

Last year was nice, but now is the time when you can start really telling people to come out and appreciate it,” said Szyjka.

It’s really spectacular,” she said of the site, which is not yet in bloom this year. “You’re not just appreciating all the blossoms. There is an incredible fragrance too.”

Chicago's Cherry Blossoms will be be at their peak viewing time in May, primarily the first two weeks, but the Chicago Park District will be posting updates about their progress on the Japanese Garden section of their website.

If you want to see and smell the beauty in person, the trees are located in Jackson Park along the shores of the Columbian Basin behind the Museum of Science and Industry at 5700 S Lake Shore Dr. in Chicago.
