A dozen eggs in Illinois average MORE than a tank of gas! But it looks as if a price drop is coming, in March 2023.  AXIOS

HERE'S THE BAD NEWS

As we talked about a couple weeks ago, the price of eggs took off to all new highs because of a bird flu going around, that is killing off chickens. Over 58 million birds across the United States have dropped dead, making the price of eggs climb to record heights.

In grocery stores across Illinois, people are paying as much as $5.13 for a dozen eggs! Now that high has in fact started to drop a little, but not much...to $4.98.

HERE'S AN EGG FLASHBACK

What was the price of eggs one year ago you ask? In January 2022, a dozen eggs was $1.50. Wow!  The Avian Influenza outbreak that began in February 2022, has done serious damage in the United States...chickens get this, they drop dead, egg prices go up!

BUT THERE'S GOOD NEWS

According to sources, the Urner Barry's Egg Index, we can expect a 20-30% price drop by the end of February. BUT THIS IS NOT eggs in the store, this is eggs sold in mass to factories and businesses that use them on bulk. Our in store eggs will remain higher, with gradual price drops through 2023 as the Avian Influenza gets under control. So help IS on the way, but it's going to take a bit longer.
