Eddie Money Diagnosed with Stage IV Cancer
Eddie Money has been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer, he says in an upcoming episode of his TV show Real Money.
The news was revealed by TMZ, along with a short clip from the show in which singer Money, 70, discusses the diagnosis, which he received late last year during a routine visit to his doctor.
He'd previously canceled his 2019 touring plans in July after requiring treatment for pneumonia, and he'd undergone heart surgery in the spring. It had been reported that he was expected to make a full recovery.
“I thought I was going in to get a checkup, and he told me that, uh, I got cancer,” Money said in the TV scene. His wife Laurie then explained: “It’s in his esophagus, the top of his stomach… it’s also spread to his liver.”
“It hit me really, really hard,” Money continued, before explaining: “I don’t want to keep the fact that I have cancer from everybody. It’s not honest. I want to be honest with everybody.” He added that cancer treatment had come “a long way” and that “not everybody dies from cancer like they did in the ‘50s and the ‘60s.” He continued: “Am I going to live a long time? Who knows. It’s in God’s hands. But you know what? I’ll take every day I can get. Every day above ground is a good day.”
TMZ reported: “[H]e’s determined to keep his loved ones in the loop as he deals with the diagnosis. We're told Eddie didn't take a break from shooting his family's show after getting the news -- and he's continued touring almost nonstop while getting treatment.”
The second season of Real Money begins airing on AXS TV on September 12.
