You did? I had no idea one of the "ugliest cities" in America is actually just over the border from where I live.

But if you take a look at housely's list of the 20 Ugliest Cities in America, there's a very good chance you'll see the same thing I did.

Apparently, Milwaukee Wisconsin is one of the 20 ugliest in the US, and here's why:

Milwaukee isn’t exactly known as being a tropical location, but a myriad of different issues in and around the city has caused the area to make it onto the list of ugliest cities in the country. There is a lot of industrial mess, and there is a lot that you just don’t want to look at in most cases. There’s not a lot to say about this area other than the fact that it is just not nearly as nice as it was in the past, and it’s quite noticeable to those in the area.

To go in on Milwaukee because it's not a "tropical location" is kind of insane. If that was the case, the entire midwest would be considered the "ugliest" because we're severely lacking in oceanfront properties.

Then there's the "myriad of different issues" that housely nonchalantly throws out there.

However, there are some stats to back up what they're saying. Neighborhoodscout says "we found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, across communities of all sizes (both large and small). Violent offenses tracked included rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, including assault with a deadly weapon. According to NeighborhoodScout's analysis of FBI reported crime data, your chance of becoming a victim of one of these crimes in Milwaukee is one in 61."

The last bit though from housely, "it's not nearly as nice as it was in the past" is a tough one for me. I've been to Milwaukee a few times in the past couple of years and it's hard for me to tell. So I'm asking you, has Milwaukee gone downhill or is it just getting picked on by housely? What do you think? Tell us.
