Dash Cams To Be Added To Many Rockford Police Cars

With an influx of grant money, the Rockford Police will be able to outfit about half of their police cars with dash cams. 

MyStateline -  Rockford city aldermen Monday night approved a grant worth $200,000 from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. The money will pay for dash cameras in roughly 30 police cars.

I know I was shocked to hear that one of the factors in holding up the investigation of the death of Officer Jamie Cox was the fact that his squad car had no dash cam. I thought that sort of equipment was standard these days. Turns out I was wrong.

Before the city received this grant money only 24 out of 105 Rockford squad cars were outfitted with dash cams. This new money will get the rate over 50% but still isn't ideal. Cheif O'Shea says that he hopes to eventually outfit all squad cars and that it will take a couple months to get the new ones installed.
