A new law will cost you dearly if you were using your phone during a wreck.

According to WREX texting and driving and then causing a car crash will have you paying up big time. The fine will jump from $75 to $1000. Your license will also be suspended or revoked for one calendar year.

The bill passed the house and the senate gave approval immediately. This law will take effect very soon.

“This day and age we are attached at the hip, or in this case hand, to our cell phones. People need to understand that this can lead to grievous injury and even death while driving. It is simply not worth it and that’s what this legislation is intended to hammer home.” - State Representative Norine Hammond
