If there were a "Thanks For Being Totally Awesome" award, this teen would get it.

The number of homeless children in the Rockford area is staggering, and a Belvidere teen wants to make sure they're sleeping comfortably.

Last week WIFR shared a story about a 15-year-old from Belvidere that decided she wanted to help teens her age by collecting money to buy sleeping bags. She teamed up with her 4-H Club members and were able to donate 100 sleeping bags to Rock House Kids.

Serenity Brockman told WIFR,

"I had it in my heart to give them a sense of security", says Brockman.

What is Rock House Kids?

At Rock House Kids, we try to provide this environment by strengthening the spiritual, mental, and physical growth of these children in many ways. We offer purity classes, teach manners, instill preventive gang involvement, and take educational field trips. We serve hot meals and distribute child-friendly single serving non-perishable food bags to each child. We help provide school supplies and backpacks and offer tutoring in an after school program. Christmas presents are given out along with a special party in December.

Kudos to you, Serenity Brockman. You're totally awesome!
