Been To An Illinois Drive-In This Summer? Your Opportunities Are Fading.
With Labor Day weekend in the rearview mirror, summer is coming to a close and our Stateline drive-ins are starting to close up shop.
We've been giving you schedules and show times for 5 of the area drive-ins throughout the summer. That number has been whittled down to 3 now that the McHenry Drive-in in McHenry, IL and the Highway 18 Drive-in in Jefferson, WI have shut down for the summer.
That leaves just 3 drive-ins within an hour of Rockford still up and running this year and I'll be honest, the offerings aren't exactly varied this week.
(Things will change next week when a monster slate of horror flicks will be played at one of our drive-ins, but we'll get to that next week.)
This week? You better be interested in the new Marvel movie Shang-Chi & the Legend of the Ten Rings because that is the main feature at all three of our locations this week.
Let's take a look at this week's slate:
SkyVu Drive-in - Monroe, WI
AND
Midway Drive-in - Sterling, IL
Both of these drive-ins will be showing the latest Marvel movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This has been getting some pretty decent reviews and it has obviously worked for the drive-ins because literally everyone is playing it.
These two theaters will be showing Ryan Reynold's Free Guy afterwards, which is only getting better and better reviews the longer it has been out. This duo might have been done before, but it's a solid drive-in lineup.
Route 34 Drive-In - Mendota, IL
The Route 34 Drive-in will also be playing Shang-Chi as the leadoff film of their double header, like I said, it's pretty popular.
They, however, will be staying in the Disney family and bring you the amusement park ride-turned movie The Jungle Cruise. This movie is everywhere but I haven't really heard anything about it good or bad. Take that however you like.
Come back next week to see who remains open and take a look at Midway's lineup for their annual Horror Fest. Very scary.
