Here's one way to help out local businesses.

Honestly, it's the kind of thing you don't see a ton of people doing because it would be just too much money.

However, there was one such person who saw fit to buy gift cards from three different restaurants and stores in one small Iowa town and send them to every household.

In Earlham, Iowa, population 1400, about 30 miles outside of Des Moines, an anonymous donor bought over 1500 $50 gift cards and had them sent to every resident.

Residents of the town's 549 households received an envelope containing three $50 gift cards to West Side Bar and Grille, Hometown Market and Trostel's Broken Branch. The cards added up to more than $82,000 spent by the donor between the three restaurants, or more than $27,000 each.

It's surely a good boost for all three restaurants and stores struggling in that small Iowa town, but one that could have lasting effects.

Sure, $150 won't change anyone's lives but it's a glimmer of hope, and generosity of one person who might help keep a few struggling businesses open while the country weaves its way through the coronavirus pandemic.

There's a slew of businesses in the Rockford area that are currently offering home or curbside delivery. If you know of a restaurant, store or some other business open right now, please let us know.
