• A man is in custody after the hit and run death of two motorcycle riders. 24-year-old Sambath Pal faces two counts of hit and run causing death and is awaiting extradition back to Rock County Wisconsin. Officials say a tip led them to Pal. The incident happened Sunday night in Janesville on U.S. 14 when an SUV crossed the center line, striking and killing 24-year-old Mitchell Vance and 18-year-old Devin Julius.
  • One person has been shot and killed in Beloit. Police responded to the 2000 block of Newark Road just after midnight where they found a man lying on the street. He was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead a short time later. Authorities are withholding the victim’s name pending confirmation.
  • Two people are in custody after allegedly robbing a gas station. It happened early this morning at the Mobil in the 300 block of North Alpine Road. Police were able to arrest two men who ran from the scene. A third suspect, possibly a Hispanic woman, is still at large. She was last seen wearing an orange shirt/jacket with short hair. Officials have not released the names of the suspects in custody at this time.
  • Two Janesville Police officers have teamed up to save an apparent suicidal woman. Officer Justin Popovich was the first to arrive Thursday night to 33 South Main Street for reports of a female threatening to jump from a roof ledge. While talking with the woman, Officer Daniel Schoonover arrived and found access to the roof. He snuck up behind the female while she was talking with Officer Popovich and pulled her away from the ledge. She is currently with the Rock County CRISES Intervention for evaluation.
  • Penalties are under review over BP’s northwestern Indiana refinery spill. Officials will decide within a month whether the company will face any fines, penalties, or corrective actions for the oil spill. It happened back in March at BP’s Whiting refinery. Crews spent several days cleaning up oil along the Lake Michigan shoreline after almost 1600 gallons discharged into the lake.
  • A Cook County judge is sentencing three men accused of planning firebomb attacks during the NATO summit in Chicago two years ago. A jury that acquitted Jared Chase, Brian Church and Brent Betterly of terrorism charges convicted them of lesser offenses. Prosecutors still want the men sent to prison for more than a decade.
