If you haven't been to a pig race before, you have no idea what you are missing.

I know, I probably sound crazy, right? But I LOVE going to the pig races!

Each year, my family and I have the tradition of going to a pumpkin farm which hosts, you guessed it, pig races. The entire family would step up to sit on the bleachers and hope that we were chosen as a pig rooter, the greatest honor of all. If your pig won, even better. You got a sweet prize.

But what makes pig races so cool?

1. Pigs have the coolest names. They do! Sr. Squeals-a-Lot, Dale Earnhog, Jr. and Lindsay Loham are just a few of my favorites. It makes for great conversation trying to figure out what your piggy name would be.

2. Pigs don't race for prizes, they race for Oreo cookies. Because what other prize would a piggy want? The winner gets the cookie and the losers get the crumbs, that's how it is in life, isn't it?

3. Pigs are hilarious. Sometimes they get so distracted with all the cheering they forget which way they need to go. Or sometimes the giant pig just struts his stuff as the others walk on by. Pigs are animals, which means extremely unpredictable.

4. You never have to worry about missing a show. The best part of the pig races are that shows run all day. So if you missed the first show, no need to fret. There are four more you can see during the day. If you are really lucky, you will get to see them all.

5. Pigs do more than race. One of the coolest attractions happens during halftime of the pig races. Swifty the Pig goes swimming! It's so cute when Swifty jumps in the water.

6. There are pigs for everyone. No, I'm not saying you are going to be bringing home a little piglet, what I mean is that there are breeds for everyone to love. There are everything from tiny little Duroc pigs to monstrous Pot Belly pigs.

7. It's more exciting than NASCAR. Sure, I'll probably get some slack for this one, but after one quick lap, you will know if Dale Earnhog, Jr. will win the race or not.

8. It's fun for the entire family. No matter how old or young you may be, something about watching these little piggies run around in a circle will bring joy to your hearts. I'm smiling just thinking about it.

You will have the time of your life at the pig races this year at Rockford Town Fair, presented by SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health! For more information on this family friendly 5 day festival and all the attractions, visit HERE.

July 8th will be a blast at Rockford Town Fair! Candlebox and Eddie Money will rock the stage!

I had the chance to sit down with Kevin Martin from Candlebox. You will never guess what his Piggy Name would be!
