A famous newsman once said, "It's science." Wise words indeed. At least I thought they were, but now I'm not so sure.

I was on Channel 17/Eyewitness News this morning with Matt Rodewald and Candice King, where I was a bit outraged over the lack of rock 'n roll tunes in the list. I was also mortified when I was able to name all five members of one the more regrettable acts of the past twenty years.

Researchers at the UK's Museum of Science and Industry have discovered the twenty catchiest songs. Ever. According to an article at cnet.com12,000 participants were used in the study. They explain that the subjects played the online game Hooked on Music. There were four ways to play:

Recognise that Tune, where users had to hum along with the track, continuing when the sound dropped out and gauging whether they were still in time when the sound resumed; What's the Hook, where users had to listen to two different clips from the same song and choose which clip was catchier; Time Trial, where users had to recognise as many songs as possible in three minutes; and In a Row, where users had to recognise as many songs in a row as they could.
