From Fan to Face-to-Face, My Epic Once in a Lifetime Encounter With My Ultimate Musical Heroes.
Most of us have that one band, that becomes our Beatles moment. Maybe it is the Beatles. For myself, I have many bands over the decades that have shaped my musical palette, but the one band that started the journey into music and being a musician is 10cc, a British rock band formed in 1972, known for their witty lyrics, sophisticated musical arrangements, and eclectic blend of pop, rock, and art rock.
Back in August I finally was able to see my musical hero's in Milwaukee at the Pabst Theater, it was the bands first tour in American since 1978. What also made this experience even more exciting was Double T, to my surprise, behind the scenes set up a meet and greet with the band.
The Ultimate Bucket List experience. Thank you Double T!! and to my girlfriend Lory for giving up her meet and greet to my cousin Rich, who is also a huge 10cc fan.
Bucket List Moment: Meeting 10cc Up Close.
10cc is now down to orginal member, Graham Gouldman, Paul Burgess who has been with the band as second drummer since the begining and in the studio since 1976, Rick Fenn who joined in 1976.
Eric Stewart has retired from music, Lol Creme and Kevin Godley who departed in 1976, became a music duo and in demand video directors back in the 1980's, creating videos for Duran Duran and the Police among many others.
Meeting the band was quite surreal, they were happy to be there, friendly, posed for pictures and let us chat for a few moments.
Then the concert. Fantastic, sure, I missed Eric, Kevin and Lol but this was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. They played all the hits such as, Dreadlock Holiday, which Graham Gouldman announced, it was a massive hit everywhere, but not in American, but it did still reach #44 on the charts and everyone in the crowd knew it and sang along , I'm Not in Love, The Things We Do For Love, Good Morning Judge along with many deep cuts.
For one night, I was that kid again, begging my mom to take me to pickup the new 10cc album, then laying on the living room floor, stereo cranked, album out, reading it from front to back. As is say's in the liner notes on the 1976 album How Dare You! Very Wonderful, Very 10cc!
